I'm not sure I know what bubinga "looks like." I mean, this 4 foot square chunk has a lot of interesting figure, some of which I might have identified as bubinga. Hit the zoom tab.

I stand by my statement. Beautiful Coffee Table, you don't think it looks like Bubinga? Doe's to me :| .
The marbling of patterns on Mick's new snare, the tightness of the veining, looks like Khaya to me.
He's probably still trying to keep a lid on it :? , perhaps re-sale in the future. :|

My only point in posting that chunk of wood was that bubinga has many manifestations. As to whether the snare is bubinga, I don't know. I'm certainly not staking anything one way or the other, but I lean toward bubinga.

The photos of the joint on the snare looks like the ribbon figure that characterizes khaya, but it also looks like bubinga. It surely does not look like pyramid, which is a crotch grain. The pyramid aspect on the snare is created by book matching and not a crotch figure, which I'm sure you knew.

The dark figure looks like bubinga I have seen, but not like khaya that I have seen. Keep in mind that I have only seen khaya in photographs, so I'm not dealing from deep knowledge, but the veneer looks nothing like the few Sonor khaya pryamid drums I have seen. I have seen a lot of bubinga, and this veneer conforms to my expectations… the real stuff, of course… except the dark filled pores, which are unusual for Sonor.

Looks like bubinga to me, although the photos look a bit washed out:
